Questions parents and teachers ask

How many times tables facts should a child answer in a minute?

There is no official number. As a rough guide, 20 to 30 right answers in a minute shows a table is becoming automatic, and 40 or more is very fast. Compare a child with their own best score, not with other children.

Is a timed test good for learning times tables?

Short, low-pressure timed rounds help facts become automatic once a child already understands them. If the clock makes your child anxious, print a times tables worksheet instead and come back to the test later.

Which times tables should my child learn first?

Most schools start with 2, 5 and 10, then 3 and 4, then 6 to 9, and finish with 11 and 12. The multiplication chart shows the patterns that make each one easier.
