It was bedtime, but Kiko didn't want to sleep.

"Just one more game!" he said, building another tower.

Dad sat on the bed. "Did you know you have a battery inside you, like a tablet? All day long it runs down: running, thinking, playing.

Sleep is how it charges up again. And while you sleep, your body grows."

So Kiko got ready: pyjamas on, teeth brushed, one story and a big hug. Dad turned off the light.

Kiko closed his eyes and imagined his battery filling up: one bar, two bars, three bars...

In the morning, Kiko jumped out of bed full of energy. "My battery is full!" he shouted.

That day he ran faster, laughed louder and learned more than ever.

What Kiko learned

Sleep charges your body and your brain, and it helps you grow. Going to bed on time means a full battery in the morning.

Talk about it

  1. Why didn't Kiko want to go to sleep?
  2. What did Dad say sleep does?
  3. What do you do to get ready for bed?

Try it this week
